PATRIOTIC Front Secretary General, Davies Chama has warned the opposition to brace themselves for a heated political campaign period, in view of the partnership the ruling party will form with the MMD.
Mr Chama said the two parties, are enjoying warm political relations and a partnership ahead of the August elections, will create a formidable force.
It is a wait-and-see situation as political parties prepare to battle it out.
The opposition is also on the other hand, pursuing plans to form alliances.
Mr Chama was determined that an alliance with the MMD would work the magic as did during the presidential election in January, last year.
“We are humbled by the MMD’s willingness to work with us and we embrace them. Our relationship with the MMD traces from way back. We are working with a number of their MPs and together, we will concentrate on improving the lives of the people. They have been in government before and they have ideas on how to run a country,” he said.
Mr Chama said in an interview yesterday that the two parties were looking forward to finalising their planned action.
He said the value of politics was to make a difference in the lives of people by aiming to develop the country without selfish motives.
He also invited other parties to join in the alliance.
He recalled that discussions for an alliance were tabled a long time ago and President Edgar Lungu, had been formally communicating with the MMD leader, Nevers Mumba on the matter.
Dr Mumba indicated in recent days, that the former ruling party was interested in the partnership.
He said the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had given him the duty to find out more about the partnership, but the desire remained strong for the two political heavyweights to work together.
President Lungu also said he wanted to work with the MMD, which was united and not a beleaguered one, and was happy that Dr Mumba had reconciled with former Republican President, Rupiah Banda.
