A UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) cadre Phinias Simalili has pleaded guilty to assaulting a Patriotic Front (PF) member Jeena Phiri while his six co-accused have denied the charge.
Appearing for plea in the Choma magistrates’ court on Tuesday before Magistrate Exnobert Zulu, Simalili 49, of Zambia Township in Choma admitted the charge but six others, Marcus Ng’andu, Saidi Mwale , Kizito Siamani, Steve Kalonga , Joe Munsaka and Jonathan Mwanza pleaded not guilty in the first count.
The six also pleaded not guilty in the second count where they were jointly charged for assaulting Saidi Malunga of Choma on Saturday February 13, 2016.
Mr Zulu, who allocated the matter to Mazabuka Magistrate Chingashi Chilingala, adjourned proceedings to February 25 and 26 for commencement of trial.
