AARON Katebe’s handler, Gabriel Kaunda, has threatened to report Moroccan club Maghreb Tétouan to the FIFA Player Status Committee for breach of contract. Kaunda said in an interview that he would go through the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to make sure Katebe’s dues are paid. Katebe parted company with Tétouan in December last year after complaining about the club’s failure to pay him signing fee amounting to US$223,000 out of the initial $240,000 agreed in the contract. That prompted FAZ through general secretary George Kasengele, on December 24, to write the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to help sort out the issue with Tétouan within 14 days or the matter will be taken to FIFA. “According to the documents we have received, the club owes the player a total amount of $233,000 out of the total sum $240, 000 which was agreed upon the signing of the contract between the player and the club. “We, therefore, request immediate intervention so that the player is given what is due to him without recourse to FIFA. “We wish to state that should the club fail to pay the player within a period of 14 days, we will have no option but open a case through the FIFA player’s status committee,” read the letter in part. Kaunda said in an interview yesterday that Tétouan have not adhered to the 14-day ultimatum and that he will now report them to FIFA. “We had reported to FAZ over the matter and they wrote to Moroccan FA and they were given an ultimatum. Since they have not adhered to it (ultimatum), the next step is to report them to FIFA Players Status Committee through FAZ,” Kaunda said. He said it was unfortunate that players should be denied their dues from clubs after playing for them. However, Tétouan in a statement posted on December 12 stated that Katebe, who joined them on a two-year deal from Platinum FC of Zimbabwe, had asked to leave Tétouan after spending much of the time on the bench. Meanwhile, Nkana have said they have not received any official communication from FIFA or Jacob Keli’s representatives after the player reported the Kitwe side to the world governing body dispute chambers for consideration for his unlawful dismissal. Keli and his representatives sued Nkana for illegal dismissal for terminating his contract at the end of last season. The player who has since signed a one year deal with the Kenyan league champions Gor Mahia feels aggrieved after his two year contract was terminated. According to his representative George Bwana quoted by Goal.com, Keli feels that Nkana did not follow the procedure as required by FIFA laws and hence the decision to take the matter to the dispute chambers. Nkana spokesperson Cephas Sinyangwe said the club has not received any correspondence in connection with Keli’s alleged unlawful dismissal claims.
