INTER Parliamentary Unity (IPU) Assembly and the African Development Bank (AfDB) meetings slated for this year will help stimulate growth in Zambia’s economy.
Zambia is expected to host the IPU Assembly meeting in Lusaka next month and the AfDB annual meeting which would take place from May 23-27 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
The IPU meeting would bring together parliamentarians to study international problems and make recommendations for action.
Inter-continental Zambia general manager Coeln Didier said the two events would help stimulate the country’s economic activities especially in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
Mr Didier said it was important to use the IPU Assembly and AfDB meetings to put the country on the world map.
He said in an interview that the meetings would facilitate for Zambia to bid for the hosting of other large regional and international conferences.
“The most important thing is to use these two opportunities to put Zambia in the limelight and as a great host in order for the country to bid for other large conferences, regional or global,” he said.
Mr Didier said the two events were expected to be huge and that over 4,000 participants were expected to attend the AfDB meeting.
The AfDB’s meetings are its largest annual event and its biggest window in the world.
