By RABECCA CHIPANTA –

SIX minors along with two suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) members have been apprehended in Ndola as the former attempted to register as voters.
The UPND officials are believed to have tried to aid the minors to register, but this was thwarted after members of the public alerted police when they noticed the under-age group.
Copperbelt Police chief Charity Katanga said the minors were apprehended at the Civic Centre while attempting to get voters’ cards.
“We have six male minors in our custody who were found at the Civic Centre trying to obtain voters’ cards. These minors were ferried by UPND members. Some PF members that saw them expressed concern if they were really 18 years old,” Ms Katanga said.
Ms Katanga said police were also holding six national registration cards (NRCs) belonging to the minors whose ages all seem suspicious.
“We are in possession of six NRCs and the ages for these males all seem the same. There could be something suspicious about this. We are still interviewing the juveniles who are still at the police together with the UPND and PF officials,” she said.
