NYIOMBO Investments has started distributing farming inputs in various provinces under the 2016/2017 farming season.
The firm, which is one of the key distributors of Government subsidised fertiliser, received 60,000 tonnes of fertiliser for onward distribution to farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
The inputs were received through the ports of Beira in Mozambique and Dar-es -Salaam in Tanzania.
Nyiombo Investment northern region manager Kondwani Chisale said distribution had commenced in five regions ahead of the 2016/2017 farming season.
Mr Chisale said in an interview that so far Copperbelt, Northern, North Western, Muchinga and Luapula had received their inputs.
“We have readily positioned ourselves for the 2016/2017 farming season.
“Fertiliser is a major component of farming which farmers need to have on time, and we are ready for the next coming season,” he said.
Mr Chisale said Copperbelt Province had so far received over 10,000 tonnes of both urea and D Compound fertiliser.
Meanwhile, the ministry of Agriculture on the Copperbelt has predicted a favourable crop harvest this year.
Senior marketing and development officer Alick Chirwa said the timely distribution of inputs and the favourable rainfall the region was experiencing would contribute towards a good yield.
Mr Chirwa  said coupled with the timely distribution of inputs by Nyiombo investments, this would help farmers in the province to effectively plan for the 2016/2017 farming season.
