By NDINAWE SIMPELWE – NKANA Football Club treasurer Alex Munasha says he will appeal against his disqualification from the FAZ treasurer’s race at the March 19 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kitwe. Reacting to his disqualification on account of not meeting the four years administrative role at club level, Munasha said he was disappointed that the scrutinising committee decided to ignore the documentation submitted by the club. Munasha argued that he met the four-year criteria. He said his nomination papers were clear about how many years he had served as an administrator, and wondered what criteria was used in the calculations. “I’m going to appeal. Up to now I don’t understand the basis that the legal committee used to make that decision. “I don’t know how informed or misinformed they were by the FAZ secretariat because my nomination papers include separate documents showing my years of service as an administrator at Nkana Football Club,” he said. He added: “I’m waiting to get official communication from them to tell me exactly how they did their calculations and why they disregarded the official letter from the club.” Munasha was disqualified from the race for not meeting the four years requirement to contest, leaving incumbent Rix Mweemba unopposed for the position. Munasha said it may have been his message on financial discipline and transparency that made some people uncomfortable, hence the decision to block him. He insisted that as far as he was concerned, he was qualified having served at Nkana for four years. He said he noticed the attempts to disqualify him just after he filed his nomination when the secretariat misinformed people on social media that he did not have accounting qualifications. “It’s quite surprising, if you remember very well, immediately after I filed my nomination, the FAZ secretariat circulated something on social media to say that I was being disqualified because I did not have the accounting qualifications. “The moment they perused through the papers, they found out that I was a chartered accountant with ACCA, a Bachelor of Accountancy and a Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants; they needed to find something else,” he said. He said it was surprising that the legal committee disregarded all the papers that had been submitted. “Firstly, they wanted to say I did not submit, then they said I do not have accountancy qualifications and now they are saying I do not have the requisite number of years. “I’m left to think that probably it’s the message I’m preaching which they are not comfortable with. I’m preaching financial discipline, transparency and accountability. These things they should be careful with and not to open a Pandora’s box,” he said.
