NAMUTOWE –
THE Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ) will soon complete the tender procedures for the establishment of a dry port in the zone.
LS-MFEZ managing director Fortune Kamusaki said management was developing tender documents requesting bidders to officially submit their financial and technical proposals which would be analysed and the winning bidder picked.
“After we advertised last year, we got three bids from three international and local companies which were considered to be reputable.
“So the next stage was to evaluate the bids and all the companies qualified to the next stage. So now we are developing tender documents requesting the companies to submit financial and technical proposals to the zone,” Dr Kamusaki said.
He said once the winning bidder was identified, LS-MFEZ would engage the bidder for them to discuss the construction of the dry port.
Dr Kamusaka said recently that management was working with the Zambia Institute of Logistics and Transport to come up with estimates of how much it would cost to set up the dry port in the economic zone.
He said once the dry port was established, it would reduce on time spent on clearing goods at the border in that people would easily access their products from the zone.
