POLICE have confiscated suspected seditious materials from a Livingstone based teacher, indicating threats on national security.
Erich Akakandelwa is already in their custody.
This followed a tip off from members of the public on Friday last week, Akakandelwa, 55, a teacher of Linda West Middle Basic School together with other persons unknown were preparing material, which was seditious in nature which was being distributed in Western Province.
Inspector General of Police, Kakoma Kanganja said among the materials seized  after a search at Mr Akakandelwa’s house in Dambwa North was a black Lenovo T61 Thinkpad with a broken screen containing  seditious documents and publications.
Mr Kanganja said in a statement issued by deputy public relations officer Rae Hamoonga yesterday that  a white vodafone mobile phone with seditious audio recordings in a folder, various email messages of a seditious nature in the suspect’s email addressed to various recipients, were discovered.
A PDF attachment of the Barotseland Penal Code Act, Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) and many more were found.
Mr Kanganja said the mobile phone also contained numbers of known convicts of seditious practices and other acts of a similar nature as shown in the call logs.
He said a Blackberry 9790 mobile phone with an audio of the Baroste National Anthem (instrumental), images of Barotseland national identify card, a soft copy of the document warning his Excellency and Commander-In-Chief Edgar Lungu not to set foot in Western Province, were also seized.
Mr Kanganja said that four copies of money sizes of the Bank of Barotseland, Mupu notes depicting front and back images of fifty (M50) notes serial number E50 1000001 with inscriptions of three geese in flight were also confiscated from Mr Akakandelwa.
Twenty (M20) notes with serial number E20 1000001 with a Zebra and Tree inscribed on the note were recovered from Mr Akakandelwa’s pocket.
Mr Kanganja further disclosed that various documents of seditious nature, highlighting the Barotseland independence from the rest of the country were also found.
“Male Lubasi Akakandelwa is detained in police custody. He has since been charged and arrested for possession of seditious  material contrary to section 57 (2) of the Penal Code Chapter 87  of the Laws of Zambia,” Mr Kanganja said.
Police had since warned anyone harboring or intending to involve themselves in such acts of stern action as it was poised at defending the Constitution of Zambia.
