THE Norwegian Government has provided a funding of 58.5 million Norwegian Kroners (about K643, 626,267, 55.67) to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to support trade related programmes for developing countries.
The objective of the fund is to help developing countries improve their capacity in trade, implement WTO agreements and integrate into the global economy.
This is contained in a statement issued by WTO and made available to the Times in Lusaka yesterday.
WTO director general, Roberto Azevedo said the funds  would help boost developing countries’  capacities to take advantage of global markets and provide assistance for implementing the Trade Facilitation Agreements.
Norwegian Ambassador to Zambia Harald Neple said his government firmly believes that the integration of developing countries into the multilateral trading system would influence positively the economic development of the countries.
Mr Neple said taking on commitments in the WTO, in line with the country’s economic development was an important step towards global integration and increased prosperity.
He said it was particularly important to enable the poorest countries reap benefits that the WTO rule book provides and what  Norway is contributing in that regard.
