A TEN-MONTH-OLD baby in Chisamba District has drowned after she fell into a bucket of water.
The baby, identified as Judy Mulenga, died after she fell in the bucket while she was playing inside the house in Chisamba Small Holdings area.
Her mother was at the time washing dishes outside the house.
Central Province police commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi said the incident happened on Monday afternoon.
“I want to confirm the sudden death of Judy Mulenga, aged 10 months, who drowned on Monday around 16:00 hours in a bucket of water which was inside the house as she was left alone playing while the mother was cleaning plates outside,” she said.
Ms Kamukoshi said the baby’s father, Isaac Mulenga reported the matter to the police.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Liteta Hospital mortuary awaiting burial arrangements.
Meanwhile, two people in Kitwe have died while a third one was left injured after being struck by lightning.
The victims were killed on Monday following a heavy downpour that was characterised by lightning from around 15:00 hours to 17:00 hours.
Copperbelt police chief Charity Katanga confirmed the tragedy in an interview yesterday.
Ms Katanga said both victims were from Wusakile Township where they died.
She identified the deceased as John Sokoni, 22, of house number B4-6, and Caristo Sinkala of D4-147.
The two, together with the injured person who has not been named, are believed to have sought shelter under a tree when lightning struck them.
Ms Katanga said the survivor sustained serious burns and was admitted to Kitwe Central Hospital.
In another incident, Ms Katanga said a 31-year-old man of Ipusukilo Township in Kitwe was electrocuted by a Zesco electrical cable.
She said the deceased, Brian Chilambo, was walking on a road near Kapoto Market when the electrical cable suddenly dropped from a power line and struck him.
