ZESCO United assistant coach Tenant Chembo has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to start televising first round Champions League games to promote transparency and reduce dirty tactics employed by some teams. Chembo was unhappy with the hostility his team received at the hands of Horoya AC of Guinea in the second leg of their CAF Champions League match on Sunday. The Zesco gaffer said this on arrival at the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport in Ndola. He paid glowing tribute to the Zesco players for showing great character in the face of adversity by qualifying to the next round. He said from the moment the team touched down in Conakry, they encountered hostilities as the hosts used all the dirty tactics in the book to frustrate them. Chembo questioned the decisions by match referee Otogo Castane Eric who awarded two penalties to Horoya and red carded Zesco midfielder genius Cletus Chama just before the break in bizarre circumstances. “Horoya could not score from open play but were aided by dubious officiating. Credit to the boys who showed great mentality. “Even the camera person we travelled with was not allowed to film the game and had people guarding him to make sure he didn’t get any footage of the game,” said Chembo. Zesco will be missing three integral players when they head to Mali for the second round of the CAF Champions League against Stade Malien due to the cards received. Chembo said lessons were learnt by the Zambian champions to make sure they do business at home and travel with a healthy lead if they are to reach the lucrative group stage of the competition. He said key to that will be to prepare well especially the mental aspect of the players.
