THE World Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has appointed two experts to conduct a level two coaches course slated for the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
The two are Gordon Mayforth from Sweden and Tony Westman from United States of America (USA).
Zambia Volleyball Association (ZAVA) general secretary Charles Haambote said in Lusaka that this would be the first time the country will be hosting such a high level technical coaching course.
Haambote said the coaching course is scheduled to start on May 23 to June 3 and has attracted 30 participants, who would take part in a two-week long training programme.
He said the eligible participants will be coaches that posses a FIVB level one coaching course certificate and that admission would be based on merit and active participation in volleyball.
“I would like to encourage the participants to take this course seriously. We were asked to shortlist only 30 participants for this course and admission will be on merit and active participation in the volleyball programmes,” Haambote said.
He said the association was happy to have tutors assigned by the FIVB to come and impart the latest skills to the local coaches.
Haambote said ZAVA had in the past only managed to hold several other courses for teachers, administrator, referee and coaches.
He said the level two coaching course would not have come at a better time than now when the association was doing everything possible to uplift the dwindled standards of the sport in the country.
Haambote said ZAVA was striving to revamp the sport and reclaim its lost glory not only locally, but also at international level.
