WE are surprised to hear more complaints coming from some petty and shallow minded Zambians who are ignorantly commenting on President Edgar Lungu’s justifiable salary increase.
We feel the wolf pack is commenting from a very ill-informed position since they are sharing ignorance with other Zambians by peddling their lack of knowledge publicly.
Despite the Patriotic Front (PF) deputy secretary general, Mumbi Phiri recently releasing the salaries of other heads of state and how they compare with the salary of President Lungu who is the least paid on the list of nine leaders, some people have continued commenting on the matter.
This time leaders of the wolf pack are some heads of an NGOs, whose organisations have not achieved measurable successes to talk about.
We thus feel these people are disqualified to comment on President Lungu’s salary since the organisations they lead haven’t got a clearly defined agenda.
Though some NGOs are relevant, a number of them need to reorganise themselves before they deafen us with comments on the Government and other organisations.
We say this after noting that a number of NGOs in Zambia get irrelevant along the way and usually lose sight of their initial cause.
Many spend vast amounts of time and energy raising funds to meet these targets without taking into account the real costs per unit of output and go into self-congratulatory raptures when the targets are achieved.
The question NGOs have to ask themselves is whether they desire to derive their satisfaction from acts of charity or from contributing to the solution of a national crisis.
We feel if the issue is contributing to the solution of a national crisis, then NGOs have lamentably failed going by the pettiness of their leaders.
We wonder why the NGOs and misguided people who are making a fuss over President Lungu’s salary kept quiet when the head of State called for review of former president’s benefits which he described as not being sustainable.
We also want to know where all these people were when President Lungu rubbished the building of houses for former presidents which he said should be reviewed again.
It is also strange to note that many opposition leaders who have joined hands with NGO leaders are richer than President Lungu whom they want to condemn to poverty despite the great work he is doing for the country.
Next time these people talk, citizens should evaluate their statements since we feel they are steeped in malice and thus misconstrued.
