Blackpool 1 Nkana 3
AN efficient Nkana yesterday battered newcomers Mufulira Blackpool in a come-from-behind win to go three points clear at the top of the MTN-FAZ Premier Division table after just three matches.
This convincing victory saw the 12-time champions also maintain their 100 per cent winning start that took them a maximum nine points, three clear of surprise package and another greenhorn, Lusaka Tigers, who won at home.
In this game watched by a large partisan crowd, Nkana’s Simon Bwalya was the first to threaten, but his 12th minute shot was saved by Blackpool goalkeeper Joy Syamvundu, while John Mushili gave Nkana a scare in the 32nd minute though his shot went inches wide of the post.
The deadlock was broken in the 42nd minute when Blackpool took the lead via a breathtaking long-range free-kick by the hard working Laston Katuta.
However, the lead lasted just three minutes as Jacob Ngulube equalised with a superb volley from just outside the six-yard just before the break.
In the second half, Nkana turned on the style when Fred Tshimenga put them ahead in the 52nd minute when he side-footed goalie Syamvundu before Ngulube completed his brace by heading in a Shadreck Musonda  cross to cap  another productive week for the early pace-setters while Blackpool stay shunted on the other end of the table without a point from two matches.
Forest 1 Lumwana 2
Lumwana Radiants collected their maiden premier division win after overrunning their hosts Forest Rangers in an exciting match in Ndola, SAMUEL LUKHANDA reports.
Lumwana drew first blood in the 36th minute when Moses Nyambe finished with confidence, a neatly timed through-ball from Eddie Sinyangwe in the box.
Forest’s response came in the 55th minute after Graven Chitalu bullied his way on the right wing and whipped in a powerful cross that Ronald Chibwe tapped home at close range.
However, their celebrations were shortlived as Lumwana went ahead when their captain Allan Kapila scrambled home the ball after Forest goalkeeper Jairus Mulenga spilled a tame free kick.
Forest will be kicking themselves for this defeat as they put in a half-hearted showing and looked to have underrated the youthful Radiants.
Eagles 1 Wanderers 1
Green Eagles missed their second penalty this season, but still fought to draw with Mufulira Wanderers in a lively game played at Choma Independence Stadium, Munambeza Muwanei writes.
After missing an injury time penalty away to Nkana at the weekend, Eagles had another penalty in the 45th minute, but Humphrey Nkole’s low taken shot was saved by Wanderers’ goalie Joshua Manyango.
Earlier, Wanderers had opened the score sheet through Joseph Kasongo in the 25th minute which unsettled the home fans that filled the stadium to the brim.
International Spencer Sautu levelled in the 55th minute off a well-struck free kick just outside the penalty box.
Wanderers slid to third on the table with five points, but remain undefeated while Eagles have got just their first point.
Warriors 1 Buffaloes 1
At Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe, hosts Kabwe Warriors fought tooth and nail to salvage a point off this on-song Zambia Army Green Buffaloes side, Passy Haachizo reports.
In a match that started on a lively note, it was the visitors that went ahead when Felony Stonya scored in the 18th minute after Warriors’ goalkeeper Monga Ndale spilled a cross into the box.
But the home side levelled in the 47th minute through Josephat Kasusu with a brilliant goal despite the efforts from Buffaloes’ goalie Davy Kaumbwa.
Buffaloes stayed fifth with four points, while Warriors are 13th on two points.
