KANSANSHI Mine has scooped the 2016 Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) Employer of the Year Award.
The award was given during the ZFE Golden Jubilee celebrations held in Livingstone on Friday last week.
Apart from bagging the overall Employer of the Year Award, FQM – Kansanshi Mine came out number one in four categories that were lined up in the mining sector, relegating their Solwezi townmates Barrick Lumwana Mining Company into second position and Mabiza Resources into the third slot.
First Quantum Minerals’s Kansanshi Mining were credited for their elaborate policy in environmental management, corporate social responsibility, staff development and internship and HIV and AIDS.
After being handed the Employer of the Year Award, the mine’s public relations manager, Godfrey Msiska said for as long as the mining company continued being in business, it would always support Government programmes and projects.
Mr Msiska, who was pleasantly surprised at the accolade, said the mine had always supported Government programmes and projects, through infrastructure development and contributing to social economic activities, and saw no reason why they cannot continue, if they remained in business.
He said FQM viewed the overall prize from the awards ceremony as a measure of support to the ZFE and that there were no losers and winners, emphasising that by supporting the federation, all the members were the winners.—Story courtesy of SUMA SYSTEMS.
