By PERPETUAL SICHIKWENKWE –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has urged Zambians to accord him a full five-year term as Head of State during the August 11 presidential and general elections.
This follows the successful implementation of various programmes started by late president Michael Sata.
The President has also urged the electorate to vote for leaders who will solve their problems and attend to their needs.
Mr Lungu told the people of Ilondola in Chinsali that ‎the Government would take development tied to people’s needs, but this would only be possible by working with Members of Parliament (MPs) and councillors who would represent their interests.
The President was speaking at a public meeting on Saturday.
“When you are choosing a councillor and MP, you should be serious, you should choose leaders who will bring development through attending to your needs,” Mr Lungu said.
The President said it would be the electorate to suffer if they voted for leaders who would not represent their needs as well as their interests at heart.
He said people should vote for him and give him his own full term after finishing late President Sata’s term, so that he could continue fostering development.
The Head of State thanked the people of Ilondola for voting for him in the January 2015 elections.
He urged women and youths in the PF to take advantage of the 40 per cent positions reserved for them in this year’s elections and participate in the country’s political landscape.
“Banamayo napapata ngamwalikwata Grade 12 certificate iposeni po (women, if you have a Grade 12 certificate, participate),” Mr Lungu said.
He promised the people of Ilondola that he would work on the Safwa Road, which connects Chinsali to Kasama and rehabilitate the Chacha Lodge ‎at the parish.
Mr Lungu promised that he was a person who walked the talk and delivered on all the promises he made to the people.
He urged the people not to fear but speak out through their MPs on the things that they wanted to be addressed by the Government.
Mr Lungu said Zambia was a big country with many provinces jostling for the meagre national resources and he would only know what people needed in an area if they spoke out.
He urged PF members to embrace each other and accept people who defected from other political parties.
Mr Lungu said party members should also emulate him by detesting violence, because fighting was a negative trend of human behaviour.
PF Shiwan’gandu MP Steven Kampyongo said Mr Lungu was the right presidential candidate for Zambia who deserved to be granted a fresh full term in office.
Mr Kampyongo assured the President that the people of Ilondola would once again vote for the PF.
Chinsali Central MP Christopher Mulenga also encouraged the people of his area to vote for Mr Lungu so that the country could continue on a sound path of development.
