NKANA coach, Aggrey Chiyangi has praised his charges for maintaining a 100 per cent winning start to the 2016 MTN Super League campaign and promised not to underrate any team this season.
Speaking after guiding his team to a 1-0 triumph over Kabwe Warriors in Kitwe on Wednesday which saw Nkana winning four of the four games this term, Chiyangi said the victory was motivating the team to do more.
“The match was very tough. Warriors is a tough opponent and like I said every team in this league is tough. But we are still unbeaten and those that are yet to win a game are the ones that appreciate what we have done,” Chiyangi said.
He said Nkana’s aim would be to maintain top position which could only come by winning the next game as the 12-time league champions would take each game at a time.
His vanquished opposite number Mohammed Fathy said the league was still open and that Warriors were still in the hunt for the title.
“But if that fails, a top four finish is the target. If you look at the way we played today, we will start winning, we hit the post, tactically, we matched them it was 50-50. Yes, it is a concern that we are yet to win, but I am sure we will win the next game,” he said.
Forest Rangers in midweek picked up their first win of the season which left coach Kaunda Simonda elated and predicting a top five finish at the end of this year’s campaign.
Simonda said after his team beat Napsa Stars 1-0 at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka that getting a first win of the season brought a good feeling which he wanted to sustain.
“The first win we got in the league feels really good. I see my team competing for the title but them we should finish among the top five teams,” Simonda said.
He praised his charges for the resilience shown especially after a poor first half when they were under pressure but managed to turn tables after restart and even scored the winner.
Simonda warned that teams in the league would find it hard to defeat Forest while Napsa coach Wilson Mwale declined to comment on the game as he kept on saying no comment to every question asked.
And Godfrey Dube reports that Nkwazi coach Elijah Chikwanda described the 4-0 bashing handed to Lumwana Radiants as a motivation that would make his team soar in the league this year.
He said the win was even sweeter that it was coming from two defeats and a draw.
“This is a good result for my boys especially that we are coming from two losses and a draw. It will motivate the guys.
We are now looking forward to the next game as we want to perform better than we did in the previous season,” he said.
Lumwana Radiant assistant coach, George Chilufya said the loss was just a minor setback and that the Solwezi-based club could still do better in upcoming matches.
Chilufya, however, attributed the heavy defeat to two early goals conceded.
“We lost the game in the early minutes after conceding two early goals, the boys could not clear the danger.
We shall focus on the positives as we move on to the next game and work on the negatives,” he said.
