By JULIUS PHIRI –
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya has said many Zambians have started realising that United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema does not have a solution to the economic problems the country is experiencing.
Mr Bwalya told journalists in Chipata yesterday that the major reasons why Zambians had come to conclude that Mr Hichilema did not have a solution was because what the opposition leader was saying was impossible.
“As a party we are very happy to hear what many Zambians are saying, that Mr Hakainde Hichilema, leader of opposition UPND, does not have a solution to the economic problems that our country has.
“For instance, Mr Hichilema is saying he will increase the floor price of maize to K120 per 50 kilogramme bag of maize. That cannot happen because we need a lot of money to achieve what the Food Reserve Agency has been buying to an excess of six per cent increase,” he said.
Mr Bwalya said it was not possible that the opposition leader’s government could increase the floor price of maize and at the same time reduce the price of mealie-meal.
He said Zambia’s economy could not be run if almost 60 per cent of the national Budget was going to be used to buy maize by Government.
Mr Bwalya said many Zambians had realised that what Mr Hichilema was saying did not make sense because he was doing the contrary.
He said it was not true that the UPND would intrododuce free education from grade one to tertiary level if it formed government.
Mr Bwalya said it was not possible that Mr Hichilema’s administration would manage to educate children from primary to university because that required a lot of money.
He said Mr Hichilema did not have a solution to the problems facing the country because whatever he was saying was empty.
Mr Bwalya further said he was happy that some opposition members of Parliament had applied asking the ruling party to adopt them as aspiring candidates in the August 11 general elections.
