NAMPUNDWE, who last year missed promotion to the MTN-FAZ premier Division by two points, have started this year breathing fire and at the weekend bashed Petauke United to straight away go top of Zone-One of Division One.
In this game they dominated, Webster Ngoma registering a brace on 41 minutes and the second in the 56 minutes before Benson Zuma and Patson Kaimana added a goal each for the comprehensive win.
Other games saw City of Lusaka beating Young Green Buffaloes 2-1 with sister club Riflemen drawing 1-1 with demotion side National.
LCC 2-1 Happy Hearts
Strugglers Lusaka City Council has started this year positively by beating new comers Happy Hearts Academy of Chilenje in an exciting game at Nationalist stadium.
LCC scored through Kiddy Siame and Davy Kashanga to get the Council side all three points with Zesco Malaiti Rangers beating Panza Chiefs 1-0 and then Slamu United defeating seasoned Division one campaigners Paramilitary 1-0.
Police College beat Lundazi 2-1 with Kafue Celtic settling for a barren draw with Matero United.
In Zone-Two, Ronald Chawe reports that Kitwe United and ‘Stylish’ Roan United started the year on a high note with victories over Konkola Blades and Zambia National Services (ZNS) Lwamfumu.
Kitwe 2-0 Blades
Kitwe United scored two first half goals through Holy Songwe and Emmanuel Chabula to collect maximum points off last year’s relegated side Konkola Blades at Garden Park Stadium in Kitwe.
At Levy Mwanawasa Stadium Gomes and Ndola United played to a 1-1 draw with Ndola United scoring through Evereste Kalembe which cancelled out a Peter Mwaba goal.
From In Kalulushi, Bresmar United recorded a vital 1-0 away win over Chambishi with Teddy Mwewa scoring the only goal for the match.
Roan 2 -0 Lwamfumu
At Kafubu Stadium, Roan United opened the season with a convincing home win over a Zambia National Service (ZNS) Luamfumu side from Mansa with Roan scoring through Lyson Sikaonga and Jeff Sikapita, who scored in each half to help Hillary Makasa’s team collect maximum points in Luanshya.
At Musa Kasonka stadium in Ndola, Copperbelt Buffaloes, formerly Kalewa, silenced visiting Kalulushi Modern Stars 1-0 with towering defender Sanida Zulu scoring the only goal of the match off a Victor Lubala’s corner.
Elsewhere, Zesco Solwezi edged Indeni with a 1-0 win, the same result recorded by Chingola Police over Kansanshi Dynamos with the goal coming from Timothy Chainda.
Mining Rangers failed to travel to Solwezi to play First Quantum Mining Operations to hand the Solwezi side an automatic 2-0 win.
