Mozambique 5-5 Zambia
(2-1 penalties)
ZAMBIA’s dream of competing at the 2016 futsal World Cup finals was yesterday dashed after a heartbreaking loss on post-match penalties to neighbours Mozambique in a third-place playoff at Ellis Park Arena.
After the two teams tied 5-5 in regulation time in this tense match, the game went straight to penalties and Mozambique won 2-1 after each side’s first two kicks were missed.
Zambia missed three penalties and only managed to score one while Mozambique missed two and scored two to carry the day.
This means Mozambique will get the third and last spot at the 2016 Colombia World Cup to be played this September.
In regulation time, Zambia netted through a Kenneth Chulu brace which was equalled by Michelo Kaampwe and Enock Shancheboi, who struck at the death to force the tie into penalties.
The Zambian team was in tears after the devastating loss considering the effort they put in to reach that far.
Adrian Chama scored the only penalty for Zambia with Kenneth Chulu, Michelo Kaapwe and Robby Phiri all missing theirs.
Morocco won the Africa Cup after defeating Egypt 2-1 in a game that started at 17:00 hours
