PATRIOTIC Front (PF) deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has urged Zambian youths to vote for President Edgar Lungu in the August general elections because he is the candidate with the best policies.
Ms Phiri said President Lungu had demonstrated that he has an interest to improve the welfare of the youth.
She said President Lungu had appointed youths to key positions in Government and came up with favourable policies that would enable them contribute to national development.
Ms Phiri was speaking in Lusaka’s Bauleni Township on Sunday afternoon at a youth mobilisation rally.
The rally, that attracted thousands of youths, was attended by some Government ministers and party officials.
“President Lungu has shown you that he wants to work with the youth. Look at how many youths he has appointed in Government. Look at the many programmes he has started. So vote for the one you know has a passion for youths,” Ms Phiri said
She said young people had the capacity to improve the country’s economy and they should, therefore, vote for someone who would help them deliver.
Ms Phiri said that development should benefit everyone and that was what the PF was about.
She said President Lungu needed another five years to bring more development to Zambia.
PF national youth chairperson Stephen Kampyongo said youths had a huge role to play in national development.
Mr Kampyongo, who is Local Government minister, said it was important that the youth in PF contributed positively to the party and brought in more votes.
He said violence was not the way to gain support for the party and so youths should avoid it.
Mr Kampyongo said youths should concentrate on mobilising the party and explaining to voters what the Government had achieved so far.
