Eavesdropper logoMANY times, some married men and women have not been honest with their better halves because they engage themselves in extra marital affairs.
Some of those who discovered that their wives or their husbands had been cheating on them have sued for divorce and depending on how magistrates looked at their cases, they granted them divorce.
Those who have sued for divorce could probably be said to be strong hearted because there have been those who could not divorce but have ended up seriously assaulting their wives and their lovers while in some instances they have ended killing them.
While there have been many cases in which husbands and wives have been going out with other people’s wives and husbands respectively, it is saddening that it is very close, if not best friends, who have been having love affairs with their friends’ wives and husbands.
Recently, I was at Ndola Central Hospital where I had gone to visit a sister of a friend who had been hospitalised after an illness.
After visiting my friend’s sister, my friend told me that there were other friends who were also hospitalised and it would be good if we visited them as well.
I thought this was a good suggestion and I agreed with the idea. We visited about three friends on the same floor.
When returning to my friend’s sister’s bed, I heard someone calling and following my friend. We stopped to hear why he was calling him.
“Do you know that your friend, Joe (not real name) is here?” the man asked my friend.
My friend replied that he did not know and he told the man that his sister was also there, but he suggested that we see Joe before finally going back to his sister.
We were led to the bed where Joe was and when I saw the man, I knew him.
We greeted Joe and wished him quick recovery. It was after wishing him good recovery when he said: “Ee lesa nampanika pafyo nacitile umunandi. Cibi sana eco na citile,” (yes, God has punished me for what I did to my friend. What I did was very bad).
As an eavesdropper, this was interesting. Yes, God has punished me for what I did to my friend. What I did was too bad!
What did this man do to his friend for him to say God had punished him? I wanted to know.
But it was my friend who told Joe to relax and instead pray to God so that he could heal him.
“Awe eco nacitile te cisuma. Ukupoka umunandi wine wine umukashi, nalilufyanya na lesa teti anjelele,” (No what I did was bad. Grabbling my best friend’s wife was wrong and God could not even forgive me,) lamented Joe.
He grabbled his best friend’s wife!
This was really bad and wrong, but as an eavesdropper, I wanted to hear more.
After about five minutes, Joe did not say anything and my friend decided that we leave.
We said bye to Joe and again wished him quick recovery.
It was when we were leaving Joe’s bedside and my friend asked the man who earlier called him and I later came know as Joe’s brother as he was escorting us, which friend’s wife his brother had grabbled.
Joe’s brother seemed surprised when my friend asked him which friend’s wife his brother had snatched.
“Almost everyone knows about this. You mean you don’t know about it?” Joe’s brother asked my friend. When my friend said he did not know a thing about this, the man started narrating what his brother had done.
According to the man, his brother was found red-handed by his best friend (names with held) with his wife.
The man said for a long time, his brother had been going out with his friend’s wife and many people in the neighbourhood knew about it.
“Even his friend knew about it because a lot of people had told him about the affair although he did not take any action. We thought he would only act after catching them, but even when he caught them red-handed, he has not taken any action,” explained Joe’s friend.
My friend was really surprised to hear this because he knew Joe’s best friend and he did not look like anyone who had lost a wife to his friend because the two men were always together and they drunk together.
“Very recently, I saw your brother with the man you are saying he grabbled his wife from,” said my friend. Joe’s brother agreed that the two had never differed although such a shameful thing had happened.
“But my brother and former brother’s wife are guilt conscious and it is for this reason that he confesses that what he did was wrong. He thinks everyone knows that he grabbled his best friend’s wife and he thinks God is punishing him for this,” explained the man.
My friend shook his head surprisingly as we greeted bye-bye to Joe’s brother.
After seeing my friend’s sister for the second time, we left the hospital.
I was still thinking about Joe and his confession that God was punishing him for what he had done.
Was this true?
I asked my friend whether he thought that it was true Joe had grabbed his best friend’s wife.
My friend said he had heard about this for the first time, but he did not doubt Joe could do such kind of thing to his friend.
“What surprises me is that Joe and the man he is said to have snatched the wife from were always together.
It was then that I remembered an incident which happened a couple of years back.
There were two friends who were best friends and were always found together in drinking places.
One of the men usually left his friend in the bar and went home to his friend’s wife and after some time went back to the bar to join his friend.
At one time the man who seemed to have more money than his friend and bought a lot of beers just for the two of them since the man had some hidden agenda.
He called another friend to join them because he did not want to leave his friend alone as he was going to his home.
When the other man joined them, the man made an excuse that he had received a visitor at his home and his wife had called him.
Little did this man know that he had been informed that when his friend left him with a lot of beers, he was going to his home to flirt with his wife.
Two minutes after his friend had left, he also left and trailed him.
For sure, he was heading to the direction of his home.
Soon, he arrived at his home and softly knocked on the bedroom window.
The woman pulled the curtain and saw the man.
She walked to the door and opened it.
The man entered.
A minute or so later, the man’s friend – the owner of the house and woman, knocked at the door.
Unsuspectingly, the woman came to see who was knocking and gosh, it was the husband who quickly stormed into the house and straight away rushed to the bedroom where he found his best friend seated on his bed.
The woman made a quick decision- she fled leaving the two in the house to tangle.
This is the kind of evil people can do.
