THE North Western Development Council of Elders has expressed satisfaction with Government’s commitment to construct and complete the Chingola –Solwezi Road.
Government last week released funds to contractors working on the 169 km road and works have since commenced.
Council of Elders chairperson Lukas Chikoti said the council welcomed Government’s commitment to resume works on the road saying that the Chingola –Solwezi road was an economic road which needed to be completed before the onset of rains.
Mr Chikoti said in an interview that the council of Elders had no doubt that the construction works would be completed and benefit many people who conduct their businesses in and out of North Western province.
He said Government had delivered on a number of projects and that it would also deliver on the road project for the people of Northwestern province.
“We are happy that the works have resumed and no doubt we have seen Government’s commitment to complete other roads, we are assured that this project will also be completed before the onset of rains. This is an important road for us as people of North Western province because it is a link to other provinces,” he said.
Mr Chikoti urged the contractors to do their work effectively and ensure that the works were done within the given period.
He said people in the North Western province had been crying over the bad state of the road and that it was commendable that Government had released funds for the project to continue.
The Chingola-Solwezi Road works were being done by China Geo and Buildcon at a cost of over K1 billion.
