FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has said the association is determined to hire a new expatriate coach before the kick-off the 2018 World Cup qualifiers this October.
And sources have confirmed that Kamanga was tasked to find a coach while he is in Europe watching the European Championships in France.
Zambia were placed in group B of the 2018 Russia world Cup qualifiers with Algeria, Cameroon and Nigeria and will start the qualifiers against Nigeria on October 3.
In an interview, Kamanga said the World Cup qualification was every Zambian’s dream and the association was determined to deliver it.
He said chances were high that Zambia would have a new coach before facing Nigeria as the executive was still resolving the issue.
Kamanga is currently in Paris, France watching the European championships but was in London before flying to France.
“We are still resolving the coach issue. We will advise immediately a decision is made by the executive,” Kamanga said.
However, sources within the FAZ have indicated that Kamanga was asked to take advantage of his time in Europe to identify some coaches who could be shortlisted to take up the Chipolopolo coaching job.
The sources said Kamanga was expected to be joined by the Minister of Sports Vincent Mwale yesterday.
The source could however not confirm if Mwale was going to France to finalise the negotiations with any coach or was there to watch the tournament the decision to fly to Europe at the peak campaign time indicates the trip is quite important.
“We want to move fast because we want to have an expatriate coach before the qualifiers start. This is a coach who will work with Lwandamina and other assistants. We asked the president if he could find at least four candidates who we can interview,” the source said.
