A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD teenager has been killed after he was hit by a stone thrown by a 19-year-old boy for allegedly insulting him.
Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the deceased of Mukuwamba Village, was hit on the head with a stone by Jacob Mwanza after he insulted the accused.
Mr Hamoonga said the deceased sustained a deep cut which caused severe bleeding and was admitted to Saint Francis Mission Hospital, where he later died.
He said the body of the deceased was at a mortuary in Katete.
He said the assailant had been apprehended and was in police custody.
Meanwhile, Mr Hamoonga said police have instituted investigations into an alleged suicide case.
He said the deceased Lackson Mbewe, 28, was believed to have committed suicide by cutting his throat, with a knife.
Mr Hamoonga said the incident was suspected to have occurred on Saturday evening.
“The matter was reported by Aggrey Mbewe, 36, of Navutika Township, who said that his younger brother of the same abode had committed suicide by cutting his throat. The deceased was seen by a tenant at the same address who later reported to the elder brother that she had seen the deceased behind his mother’s house who is the landlord of the premises,” he said.
He said upon hearing the report of his brother committing suicide, Mr Mbewe rushed to the scene of the crime and found his sibling in a pool of blood.
The deceased’s body was then taken to Chipata Police, where officers carried out a check.The body was later taken to Chipata General Hospital mortuary.
