By SYLVIA MWEETWA –

SOME inmates at Mpima Remand Prison in Kabwe have complained that they have overstayed in prison without knowing their fate.
Those interviewed claimed that it was unfair to continue detaining them at the prison without having their cases concluded.
The remandees have since and appealed to the magistrates  at Kabwe courts to speed up their cases and allow justice to prevail.
And 13 remandees have since raised their concern with Kabwe High Court judge Elita Mwikisa  through the Officer in Charge at Mpima Prison when she toured the prison on Friday afternoon.
A number of the inmates who raised concerns were facing defilement, stock theft, housebreaking, theft and arson charges among others.
One of the convict complained to Ms Justice Mwikisa that he had his finger cut off by his former employer who forced him to confess that he was a thief and accused the police of having
refused to take up the matter despite being issued with a medical report.
In response, Ms Justice Mwikisa said she would follow up the complaints with a view of finding a lasting solution and urged them to continue maintaining high levels of discipline despite the numerous challenges being faced.
Earlier, Ms Justice Mwikisa and her entourage visited Kalonga Prison Farm and the newly commissioned milling plant in Mukobeko area.
Ms Justice  Mwikisa was happy with various activities being undertaken at the farm.
These  include  bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, power electrical and tailoring among others.
She urged them to make use of their skills.
