MUNA Singh Junior has put his sight on overtaking African Rally Championship (ARC) leader Don Smith as the Rally of Tanzania 500km thriller revved off yesterday in Dar-Es-Salaam.
Kenyan Smith, navigated by Bob Kaugi, holds a four point lead over Muna, who has 50 points and will be co-driven by his sister Jasmeen, while in a distant third is 2014 champion Gary Chaynes navigated by David Israel 25 points with Zambia’s Ismail Ibrahim fourth on 15 points.
Reigning champion Jaspreet Chatthe of Kenya, who beat Jassy Singh to the title in 2015, is not taking part in this year’s edition.
Muna said in an interview from Tanzania that he was ready to win the rally and raise the Zambia flag high as he competes with 27 other drivers taking part in the rally.
He said winning the last leg of the ARC held during the Zambia International Motor Rally has given him confidence heading into the rally and warned Smith to expect a tough competition.
Muna said he was not worried with the Tanzanian routes as they were not new to him and was ready for the challenge ahead of him.
“I have been here for some days now trying out the routes, they are very fast and twisted, and very different from Zambia. It is definitely something new but we shall see how it goes,” he said.
Muna added that his car is 100 percent fit and that he will put up his best to win the championship and top the ARC.
