By AUSTIN KALUBA –
DiscourseTHERE are two things that mortal man struggles to do well. These are governance and judgement.
Both are illusive divine activities that can only be executed well by God Himself.
Understandably, our political and legal systems globally are increasingly becoming chaotic with citizens distrusting politicians and lawyers.
In continents like Africa, bad governance in failed states is worsening the mistrust for heads of State who are perceived as a greedy lot out to make a fast buck before they retire.
However, some critics have discovered that bad governance is not an inevitable condition of social existence since its root cause is the failure to uphold and protect individual rights.
In this area, President Edgar Lungu has scored a first by providing a mother of all constitutions and effecting several development projects that herald good things to come if he is voted for the next phase of his presidency.
We thus agree with him when he says he will improve the living standards of Zambians if he is elected on August 11.
Let’s face it! President Lungu’s ‘walk the talk’ slogan has borne fruition with several accomplished projects that promise a better Zambia in future.
President Lungu’s appeal in Chisamba District should be taken seriously since he is taking the country to a political Canaan that has eluded Zambia for many years.
It is not economically and politically healthy for a country to change leadership every after two or three years.
Zambians should be made to understand that whatever problems the country is facing are not insurmountable.
This brings to mind the famous quote from an American statesman and retired four-star general in the United States Army Colin Powell who once said “leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them since they have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.”
