CITY of Lusaka opened a five-point lead at the summit of the FAZ Division One Zone One league table after beating fellow promotion chasers, National Assembly in a Week 22 fixture played at Woodlands Stadium.
The victory moved City to 46 points with second-placed Nampundwe United maintaining their position after beating Zesco Malaiti Rangers 1-0 while Assembly is stuck on third position with 38 points.
City skipper Roy Sakwanda’s 41st minute goal was all that ‘Ya moto’ needed to silence Assembly and grab the maximum points and keep alive hopes of winning promotion back to the elite league.
Elsewhere, Lusaka City Council (LCC) registered their first victory under the tutelage of new coach Weston Mumba, who replaced fired Chris ‘Gaza’ Tembo, beating Slamu 2-1 with Dada Banda and Sindekan Phiri on target.

Kitwe United beat rivals Mining Rangers in a Kitwe derby to enhance their promotion pursuit by taking over the leadership of the Zone Two log.
A brace each by Emmanuel Chabula and Chileshe Mulenga, and a goal from Joe Simbuwa sealed an emphatic win for the ‘Chingalika boys’ at the top the log with 42 points as Grandson Phiri and Danny Chilumba scored consolation goals for Mining.
Kitwe are one point ahead of Konkola Blades, who surrendered the top position after drawing 1-1 with Ndola United, as Roan United moved into third place with a 2-1 home win over Chambishi to be on 41 points. Indeni consolidated their fourth place with 38 points after defeating Copperbelt Buffaloes 1-0.
