MTN Zambia has processed K4.2 billion worth of transactions through its mobile money services this year.
MTN public relations and communications officer Olivia Matani said MTN Mobile Money services had processed K4.2 billion transactions this year.
Ms Matani said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the company had recorded volumes of about 35.2 million transactions during the period under review.
“The value of money processed this year is K4.2 billion and the number of transactions average to 35.2 million,” she said.
She said Mobile Money platforms were means of transacting in a smart way and availability of agent outlets which meant that the services were easily accessible.
“Normally, banks are intimidating but platforms like ours provide a safe and convenient service. We implement state of the art firewalls and security system within MTN to secure and protect our systems,” Ms Matani said.
She said despite the strong growth in 2016, driving financial inclusion in rural Zambia continued to be a challenging task.
“Literacy levels continue to pose a challenge and we are now educating customers in local languages,” she said.
Ms Matani said MTN mobile money was helping registered customers to pay utility bills and send money to friends and relatives in the comfort of their homes.
“People are now embracing mobile money platforms as the safest and convenient ways of transacting money,” she said.
