Know your rightsTraditionally, the festive period always goes with breaking the law ranging from motoring offences to anti-social behaviour many of them related to alcohol and mere excitement.
Knowing this, Police worldwide always carry out increased policing during this period in order to prevent anti-social behaviour that abrogates the law.
During the festive period people are busier doing their Christmas shopping and enjoying a night out with work colleagues or relatives.
It is this excitement that is likely to cross over to the realm covered by the law of Zambia.
However, it is the wide consumption of alcohol and excitement during the festive period that usually lead to some people breaking the law.
The message to my readers is that everybody should enjoy the festive period responsibly since anybody involved in any form of criminality whether anti-social behaviour or any form of crime will be dealt with appropriately.
Note that every year Police focus and target offences which regularly occur over Christmas and New Year, such as violent and domestic abuse crimes.
Apart from motoring offence, there is evidence of several people being charged in connection to violent crimes including domestic abuse offences.
My advice is for you to celebrate the festive period in the comfort of your home since this reduces the chances of being caught up with the long arm of the law.
