TRADERS of various items have continued reaping from the festive season due to increased spending which characterises the season.
In Kitwe business started picking from last Monday with volumes of trade increasing exponentially.
Trading places including streets had to be restocked in readiness for the booming business in the season.
Chickens have been, as usual, the main victims of the buoyed demand due to increase in the social gatherings.
Jane Mwewa who sells chickens at Kitwe’s Chimwemwe Market said business volumes for chicken has increased tremendously this season.
“In ordinary days I sell about seven chickens per day but now I am selling between 10 and 15 per day which is encouraging,” Ms Mwewa said.
As for John Chanda who runs a beverage wholesale in Kitwe’s industrial area the business has picked this year more than the previous years.
“We expected business volumes to drop because of the happenings in the economy, ours being a copper-dependent region but we are selling more beverages as compared to the previous seasons,” Mr Chanda said.
Shoprite city centre outlet is also receiving its fair share of increased business as hordes of customers jostle for diverse food stuffs such as rice, beverages and other consumables.
It is not only the food business which is booming but also the outfit business as Pep Store on Lusaka’s Freedom Way is attracting a lot of shoppers.
