By JULIUS PHIRI –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has urged politicians not to view the Church as an enemy.
President Lungu said the Church was there to evangelise the Word of God to the masses and to unite the people through the promotion of love.
The President said politicians were part of the Church, which was vital in embracing everyone, thereby uniting the nation.
The Head of State said when he attended a Church service at the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ), Chipata congregation yesterday, that politicians should be regarded as part and parcel of the Church.
Mr Lungu said the Patriotic Front (PF) leadership believed in God and that it would continue praying in various churches.
“When you see us, don’t be surprised, because we are part and parcel of the Church. So politicians should be embraced every time they come into the Church,” he said.
President Lungu told the jubilant congregants, who were also welcoming their minister–in-charge Reverend Masauso Moyo, that he was glad that the Church and the Government had partnered in the education sector through the construction of schools and hospitals, as well as in the health sector for the benefit of the community.
Mr Lungu said it was for this reason that the Government would continue partnering with the Church in a number of areas.
“The Church has built schools and hospitals, which are helping the people as part of supplementing the efforts of the Government,” the President said.
He said his Government was ready to work with all churches, because it believed in the Word of God.
Rev Rose Malowa, who preached the sermon titled ‘When God Sends Us’ and read the Bible from Ezekiel 2 versus 1-9, appealed to President Lungu not to segregate in the delivery of development projects.
Rev Malowa said that President Lungu had a duty to take development to all corners of the country, including Dundundumwezi where he did not get a lot of votes.
She said she was aware that God had a purpose for every human being on earth and that the leadership of President Lungu was dependent on God.
“God has a purpose for every human being on earth and ba Kateka (President Lungu), work and take development to all corners, including Dundundumwezi where you did not get a lot of votes,” Rev Malowa said.
She called on Christians to continue depending on God every time, because He knew how to take care of His people.
The President is today expected to wind up his three-day tour of Eastern Province with an engagement with agro dealers and bishops.
