THE Government has urged the academia in the country to find solutions to problems facing the country’s economy.
Higher Education Minister Nkandu Luo said the country had a lot of economic potentialities which had remained untapped hence the need for the academia to work with Government to overcome economic challenges.
“We boast of having 40 per cent of water in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region, that is the reason the young generation should think outside the box,” professor Luo said.
She said the country needed to make universities relevant to the economic growth of the country.
Prof Luo said the Government wanted to use the country’s centrality to become an educational tourism centre to attract more students from the region.
She said the Government had started laying the foundation by committing more investments to the education sector.
Prof Luo has since urged universities and colleges in the country to develop a viable marketing strategy to attract more students from the region and gain more foreign exchange.
She said this in Mpika during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Copperbelt University(CBU) and Tanzania Zambia Railways (TAZARA).
The MoU seeks to take advantage of the huge untapped capacity that lies in TAZARA Training Centre (TTC) by introducing university programmes at TTC.
