SUPER Division side Green Eagles is in talks with George Chilufya to take up the assistant coach role for the 2017 season.
Eagles Secretary Friday Sinyangwe confirmed in an interview that the club was looking at beefing up the technical bench so that the team could be competitive this year.
He said the negotiations with Chilufya, a former Lumwana Radiants and Gomes assistant coach, were going on very well and had reached an advanced stage.
“We will be concluding our negotiations with him very soon. He is the kind of assistant that both our head coach and the exco wanted so I think he will fit in very well once he signs,” Sinyangwe said.
Chilufya will be assistant to Manfred Chabinga, who joined the club in mid-season last year and helped the team survive relegation.
He said that the team barely survived relegation last season hence the need to add to the technical bench to make it competitive and avoid falling into the same trap.
He added that this year, the league would be more competitive than it was last year and Eagles needed to have the right coaches to compete.
“We want to be competitive this year so that we avoid the relegation battles that we went through last season.  We don’t want any of that this year and we are confident our technical bench will do their job.
So our aim is basically to do better than what we did last year,” Sinyangwe said.
Eagles finished on 13th position last year with 38 points two points from relegated Lusaka Dynamos.
