THE Government says there is need to build up on the existing potential of the leather and textile subsectors to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe said there was need to build up on the existing potential of the two subsectors to enhance productivity.
Ms Mwanakatwe said Government had recognised the leather and textiles sectors as key priority areas that could accelerate industrialisation.
She said this at the handover ceremony of leather and textile inputs to Expo winners in Lusaka at the weekend.
She further urged the citizenry to support the sectors by buying local products to promote the growth of both Leather and Textile.
Ms Mwanakatwe called on large companies to support Small medium enterprises (SMEs) by giving them an opportunity to grow from medium to large.
“If we start producing products that can be used in the region and beyond, we will begin to experience real value addition and diversification of the economy.” she said.
