A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl of Lusaka has been murdered by unknown people who later dumped her body near her parents’ home.
In another murder case, police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly beating his 19-year-old girlfriend to death and later dumping her body in a well in Lusaka’s Matero Township.
The murdered girl went missing on Tuesday, around 13:00 hours and her bruised body was only discovered by her father near an unfinished building in Meanwood Phase II area, around 06:00 hours yesterday.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo, said the body was taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary for postmortem.
“We have since instituted investigations into the matter,” Ms Katongo said.
In the second murder case, police picked up Isaac Mwakajumba of Lusaka’s Chazanga area in connection with the killing of Justina Njovu of Matero.
Ms Katongo said the victim was last seen being beaten by the suspect on Kasupe Road in Matero.
She said Mwakajumba was apprehended in Chongwe District, hiding in his former wife’s house and was charged with murder.
In another development, police have apprehended two men in connection with the murder of a taxi driver identified as Moses Tembo, 32, of Lusaka’s George Township whom they booked on February 21, this year, around 22:00 hours in Matero.
Ms Katongo said Tembo’s decomposed body was discovered on February 26, by his children who were playing on Mungwi Road in Lusaka between 09:00 hours and 10:00 hours.
She identified the suspects as Gift Mukube, 24 and Masauso Banda, 21. Police recovered the stolen vehicle, a Toyota Corolla registration number ALX 4278.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man of Kanyama Township drowned in a ditch near Superior Milling as he tried to swim across.
Ms Katongo said Goodson Phiri drowned around 18:00hrs on Sunday but his body was only retrieved yesterday and had been taken to UTH for a postmortem.
