By JAJAH COULIBALY –
FIRST Lady Esther Lungu says talent identification in Zambia is vital to the development of the economy as well as job creation.
The first lady has also challenged those in the comedy industry to set up a talent school and a professional comedy institute and be the innovators and entrepreneurs as they were the current leaders in this area.
She said this when she officiated at the 2017 ‘Local is Laka’ Comedy Fun Festival held at Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Friday night.

“I feel motivated to come and attend this event on the performing arts calendar because of the dedication and compassion exhibited by our comedians to use their talents for alleviating the challenges affecting some of our brothers and sisters in our communities,” she said.
Mrs Lungu called for the need to improve the arts to ensure comedy is brought to the place it deserves not only at national level but beyond borders.
She added that people who couple their profession with talent were likely to excel more in their work or business than those pursuing careers forced on them by other people or themselves.
“This is why we need to discover our children’s talents at a young age so that we prop them towards pursuing their God given natural abilities,” she said.
The first lady further urged Zambia as a country to focus on the issue of talent identification as a way of improving the country.
