A MAN of Lusaka’s Meanwood Phase-Two area has allegedly shot to death his wife and her suspected lover in front of his children.
Peter Siwale, 33, who is a clearing agent in Nakonde, Muchinga Province, shot dead his wife, Charity Namuko,30, and Andrew Chibesa, 27, whom he suspected to have been having an affair with his wife.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the incident, which happened on Thursday between 18:00 hours and 19:00 hours.
Ms Katongo said Siwale trailed the deceased, who were both teachers at a named school in Kaunda Square, to some place in Meanwood using a friend’s motor vehicle where he saw them in a romantic state.
“Mr Siwale picked the two, who he took to his home where he is alleged to have shot both of them dead in the presence of his children,” Ms Katongo said.
Ms Katongo said that Ms Namuko sustained a wounds on the right side of her shoulder and right side of the chest.
She said Mr Siwale later went to the neighbour’s house with children and requested that he be taken to the police.
Ms Katongo said a pump action shotgun was recovered from the scene with three empty cartridges.
She said the suspect was detained in police custody, while the bodies of the deceased were in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
In another incident, a woman of Kaoma District in Western Province has hacked her husband to death using a hoe after he picked a quarrel with her following a drinking spree.
Mununga Limunga, 35, was sleeping at their home when her husband got home at midnight in a drunken state and picked a quarrel with his wife and, in the process, a fight ensued.
Western Province Police Commissioner Charles Lungu confirmed the incident, that happened on Thursday at midnight, and that investigations had been instituted.
Mr Lungu said Ms Limunga allegedly hacked her husband, Masheta Kalweke, 47, on the left side of his leg and bled to death.
“What happened is that yesterday around midnight (Thursday) the man came home very drunk and picked a quarrel with his wife and, fearing being overpowered, the woman got a hoe and hacked the man on the leg,” Mr Lungu said.
He said the woman later informed her relatives of what had transpired and they alerted the police.
Mr Lungu said police officers rushed to the scene and picked up the body, which is now lying in Kaoma District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Mr Lungu said Ms Limunga was arrested and would appear in court soon
