CHINESE Ambassador to Zambia, Zhou Yuxiao has called for hard work among students in the country if they have to become better citizens and contribute to the country’s development.
Mr Zhou explained that he never thought that he would be an ambassador representing his country but believes that it was as a result of discipline and hard work which contributed to his success in life.
Speaking at Mulungushi University on Thursday afternoon when he gave a lecture on Africa-China Relation with a focus on Zambia, Mr Zhou said hard work was key to any success.
The Chinese envoy further said his country has invested heavily in science and technology through its education system and urged the university to consider taking the same path.
And answering a question from a student who wanted to know how China managed to develop at a fast rate, the Chinese envoy said it was because the country refocused its efforts in ensuring that the country’s peace was upheld.
He maintained that peace and stability was an answer to the attraction of investment and any meaningful development to be recorded.
“I want to state that peace and stability is key for any meaningful development to take place and it is gratifying to see that Zambia has remained peaceful,” he said.
He said the country has maintained peace for many years and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Zambia in various sectors of the economy.
And speaking earlier, Mulungushi University Vice Chancellor Hellicy Ng’ambi called for the continued stronger bilateral ties between Zambia and China especially in the area of education.
Professor Ng’ambi said that china’s growing influence could not be ignored and was happy that the Chinese envoy agreed to give a talk to the students.
