By SAM PHIRI –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu yesterday permitted former Nigerian President General Olusegun Obasanjo to visit UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema at Mukobeko Maximum Correctional in Kabwe.
Mr Lungu authorised the visit after Mr Obasanjo sought his permission in a confab at State House when the former Nigerian leader, in Zambia on other business, paid a courtesy call on him.
Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda confirmed the development in a media briefing at State House saying the two leaders also discussed a wide range of issues.
Mr Chanda said President Lungu not only allowed Mr Obasanjo to visit the opposition leader, but also laid on a Zambia Air Force aircraft to fly him to Mukobeko.
“The President met Mr Obasanjo who paid him a courtesy call at State House where they discussed engagements of the former Nigerian President in peace efforts and his campaign against polio on the African continent,” he said.
