GREEN Eagles volleyball club put themselves in a good position to qualify to the Zone-Six championship after winning their first three games during the Indeni/ZAVA invitational tournament at Indeni Sports Complex.
After a poor turnout of teams where only five men’s teams turned up from the expected 20, organisers ruled that the competition be played on a round robin basis.
Eagles wasted no time to get to business by dispatching Nkwazi 3-1 despite losing the first set with score of 25-20, 22-25, 13-25, 24-27 in their first game before they beat Flight Spikers 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-22).
Eagles wrapped up the day with another 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-11) win against Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF).
Indeni were the second best performing side taking advantage of home ground winning their two games played.
Indeni first beat Flight Spikers 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 28-12) before beating KPF with a similar score 3-0 scoreline with set scores of (25-19, 25-16, 25-20).
In other results Nkwazi beat Flight 3-2 in a tight game (25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 19-25, 15-12) in the game of the day.
The games continue today with KPF taking on Nkwazi, Indeni will be up against Eagles in a possible title decider and later on play Nkwazi while the last one will see KPF face Flight.
In the ladies category Lusaka select beat Flight 3-2, Kamwala Magic beat Rock Stars 3-0, Flight beat Kasama 3-0 and Rock Stars beat Nkwzi 3-0.
The last two games saw Select beat Kasama 3-0 and Magic beat Nkwazi with same score line.
The ladies semi-finals will see Magic up against Flight and Lusaka Select will take on Rockstars.
The tournament continues today.
