Ndola vendor killed in police car-chase put to rest

THE young male vendor who was killed by a vehicle which was being pursued by traffic police in Ndola last week was put to rest yesterday.
Faston Siwakwi, 22, was a member of the Street Vendors Association of Zambia and died during a car chase involving traffic police and a taxi driver, the incident which ignited a riot in the central business district.
Ndola Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Mulenga said while it was not an easy thing to accept such a death, the family needed to put God first and celebrate the life of the young man.
He said the incidence had saddened the Government adding that he would have a meeting with Copperbelt police chief Charity Katanga tomorrow to discuss how the community could continue to work with the police and how best they could help the bereaved family.
Street Vendors Association of Zambia president Fredrick Tembo said Siwakwi was a hard working and carefree young man who would be greatly missed by the association.
