FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary Ponga Liwewe yesterday said Football House was left to wonder what the motive was for City of Lusaka to pitch up at Sunset Stadium when communication concerning the postponement was sent.
Liwewe said this in a response to City over a letter they wrote to him demanding to be awarded three points for the deferred Week 29 match against Zanaco.
Liwewe said Football House informed City and Zanaco via email on the eve of the match about the postponement which was followed by a phone call the morning of the match day.
“When a decision was made to postpone the above match on Saturday 30th September owing to compound and militating reasons surrounding the national team, due notifications under the circumstances was made to yourselves and Zanaco via our attached email at 22:41 hours on Saturday 30th September and was copied to the Referees manager and other relevant staff at the FAZ secretariat,” Liwewe said.
Liwewe added that City Messrs Benjamin Bush and Kapalamula Njovu were informed separately on Sunday by Cuthbert Tuwa from the FAZ secretariat.
“In this view of the above initiative to inform your team of the postponement of the above match, we are left to wonder what the motive was for your team’s appearance at Sunset Stadium apparently ready to play the match that was postponed,” Liwewe said.
Club secretary Christopher Chilongo on Monday wrote to FAZ demanding for three points because their opponents and match officials did not show up for the match.
City pitched up for a game on Sunday despite being informed of the postponement and warmed up for 15 minutes before they left the field of play.
The bottom placed MTN-FAZ Super League side denied having received any form of communication from Football House on the postponement of the match hence the players showing up for the game.
