By THANDIWE MOYO –
COMMUTERS in Lusaka have called on the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to intensify publicity of the 983 toll free line to enable the public report drunken motorists and other road-use offenders.
The commuters observed that drunk-driving was quite common among public service bus drivers and their conductors.
Elizabeth Tembo from Kabwata said in an interview with the Sunday Times that RTSA should make the toll free line more visible especially in public places.
Ms Tembo complained of bad behaviour drunken from drivers and their conductors.
She said most commuters have no channels to report such unbecoming behaviour to RTSA.
Another complainant, Roy Kazembe from Kabulonga said travellers were wary of boarding buses driven by drunk drivers.
RTSA Public Relations Manager Fredrick Mubanga said efforts by the agency to publicise the toll-free line to report unbecoming conduct by bus drivers were being hampered by members of the public.
He said some members of the removed the adverts or refused to support the campaign by not displaying the numbers when approached by the agency.
Mr Mubanga appealed to all Zambians and commuters to take advantage of the 983 toll free lines to reports any road dangerous driving or drunken drivers to RTSA.
