By ADRIAN MWANZA –

THE Government has embarked on a number of projects in key economic sectors in line with the Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP).
Lusaka Province acting Permanent Secretary Mercy Miti said that various projects were vital in job creation, rural development and inclusive growth.
Ms Miti said this when she officiated at the first quarterly meeting of the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC).
She appealed to members and stakeholders of the sub-committees of the PDCC to meet periodically to review progress and find solutions to various development challenges.
She said the Government had scored a number of successes in infrastructure, social and education sectors.
“In the area of development of infrastructure, a number of successes have been registered and, among the completed projects, is the completion of the Michael Chilufya Sata Bridge in Chirundu,” she said.
The Government had also scored a number of successes in the provision of social infrastructure in education, among the notable ones, being construction of the Margaret Mwahiyeya Secondary School and Silverest Special Needs School in Chongwe.
Ms Miti said even though the Government had scored many successes, a number of projects were not progressing well.
Chilanga District Commissioner Edith Muwana said the devolution of power had made it possible for various Government wings to execute tasks prudently.
Ms Muwana said decentralisation eased the long processes and bureaucracies that were being experienced in the past.
“Decentralisation has made it possible for Government workers to execute tasks and duties effectively unlike before when there was too much bureaucracy,” she said.
