ZESCO United will be without coach Zlatko Krmpotic during a crucial run-in both in the CAF Confederations Cup and MTN-FAZ Super League. Krmpotic has been given compassionate leave to mourn his father who passed away in Serbia on Friday evening.
Zesco media and public relations officer Katebe Chengo confirmed that Krmpotic was allowed to travel and will miss today’s MTN/FAZ Super League clash against title rivals and defending champions Zanaco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Chengo said the details that led to the death of Krmpotic’s father were not known but that the coach received the call from his son on Friday evening to announce the sad news.
She said Krmpotic left for Serbia yesterday morning but could not disclose when he will report back for duty.
Zesco has a crucial CAF Confederation Cup tie against Recreativo do Libolo of Angola on Saturday after surrendering the group leadership initiative in Sudan where they got beaten 1-0 on Wednesday.
Assistant coach Tenant Chembo is expected to be in charge in Krmpotic’s absence.
She further said the entire Zesco United had joined their coach in mourning his father and sends their messages of Condolence.
