Police Cap 628x350By JAMES KUNDA –
A 32-YEAR-old woman of Lusaka’s Misisi Township has been arrested by police for allegedly stabbing her husband to death with a knife, after a fight inside the couple’s one-roomed house.
The victim has been identified as George Chavula, 45, of an unmarked house number but in Misisi, while the suspect is Grace Chanda of the same abode.
Police acting spokesperson Danny Mwale said the incident occurred yesterday at 02:00 hours and that Mr Chavula was allegedly stabbed twice in the back with a kitchen knife.
Grace also allegedly had two of her teeth broken during the fight as fits were alleged to have been used on her by the husband, who died a few minutes after the stabbing.
Mr Mwale said the matter was reported to police by a neighbour who was awakened by the accused to help find a taxi for her to rush the husband to the hospital.
He said the body of Mr Chavula was in the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
In another incident, also in Misisi but at 03:00 hours yesterday, Mateta Namutondo, 36, committed suicide by hanging himself using a rope.
Mr Mwale said Mr Namutondo was a security officer at Banda Memorial Services and he hung himself from the tree within the premises whilst on duty.
He said the deceased told his friend that he was going to answer a call of nature but was later discovered hanging on a tree by a fellow officer.
Mr Mwale said the body of the deceased was also in the UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem.
