PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu is saddened by the death of United Party for National Development (UPND) Chilanga council chairperson Maria Malila who died on Sunday at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
Ms Malila is wife to Supreme Court Judge, Mumba Malila.
Justice Minister Given Lubinda, who visited the funeral home, said the President was in Chilanga when Ms Malila’ death was announced.
Mr Lubinda who was accompanied by Attorney General Likando Kalaluka at the funeral house in Lusaka’s Makeni area, conveyed Government’s condolences to Mr Malila and the bereaved family members.
“In times like this, we need friends to stand by us. More importantly, let’s pray for God to strengthen Judge Malila and the children during this difficult time,” he said.
Mr Lubinda said the people of Chilanga had suffered a double tragedy, because residents would be subjected to another by-election after next week’s Tuesday Parliamentary by-election.
